I hope your new year has started off well! 2017 was a year of growth and vision casting at 1st Principle Group. I’d love to highlight some of the areas we have grown and what we look forward to in 2018.
In July 2017, I joined 1st Principle Group full-time as a therapist and received my Associate License in the state of Georgia shortly thereafter. I have enjoyed the daily rhythm of walking with clients through their lives. It is far too easy as a therapist to reduce problems to theoretical notions – a diagnosis that frames a behavior – that give way to a solution. The harder work is in meeting with each client and continuing to interact with them as an individual – an image-bearer of God who has unique experiences. I have found it incredibly life-giving to meet clients exactly where they are and work through the shame that keeps so many of us from experiencing healing and growth.
We also grew by adding another therapist to the practice in September 2017, Jenn Boughey, MA. Jenn currently sees clients on Thursdays at our office and we are not-so-secretly hoping we get more of her time! Jenn focuses on working with women who are struggling through identity issues related to marriage, raising kids, past trauma, or life-stage issues.
As we look toward 2018, we are anticipating even more growth. Our aim is to consistently provide excellent, holistic care for our clients. In order to do this, we try to be attentive to the reoccurring needs that show up in our clients’ lives.
- We will be offering a new weekly group for men struggling with sex addiction starting in January.
- We will also be looking to expand our network through speaking engagements. If you, or anybody in your network, would like to host myself, Jenn, or Ryan for a speaking engagement around any topic related to counseling, we would love to participate!
- We will also be working on leading a marriage retreat in the first half of 2018. If you or your church would be interested please let us know so that we can begin to account for interest.
I have appreciated the feedback you have all provided about this newsletter. It helps shape what we focus on and how we address certain topics. In 2018, Jenn will be joining me to help co-write as well as write on her own. The first series we will be writing will focus on “identity” and how to make sense of the parts of our lives that play into our identities. If you have followed Christ for any amount of time, you understand the difficulty in knowing you are a new creation, while still making sense of the brokenness that plagues your mind, body, and soul. We want to try and engage this struggle by reflecting on our work with clients, as well as the overwhelming power of the Gospel that transforms us.
We look forward to serving you this year and would love to know the ways in which we can best do that!
